 WHY MUSICOLOGY

IMG_6886.jpg

The Mission of Musicology: Music Studies for EVERY Mind.

TO CREATE AND FOSTER A LIFELONG LOVE OF MUSIC THROUGH CHILD-DRIVEN REPERTOIRE. WITH OVER 50 YEARS OF COMBINED EXPERIENCE OF TEACHING IN PUBLIC, PRIVATE, COLLEGIATE, AND NON-PROFIT INSTITUTES WE HAVE COME TO THE DISTINCT OPINION THAT STUDENTS LEARN WHAT THEY LOVE! ASSIGNING THE NEXT PAGE IN AN OUTDATED LESSON BOOK IS NOT RELEVANT LEARNING. WE STRIVE TO MEET THE STUDENT WHERE THEY ARE BY ASKING THEIR FAVORITE MOVIES, BOOKS AND SONGS. FROM THERE WE FIND REPERTOIRE THAT IS BASED ON EXCITEMENT FOR LEARNING. POP SONGS, SHOWTUNES, SOUNDTRACKS ARE ALL HEARD AT EVERY ONE OF OUR THREE YEARLY RECITALS (HALLOWEEN, HOLIDAY AND SPRING). OUR STUDENTS PROGRESS AT A FAST PACE BECAUSE THEY ARE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE PLAYING!

EVERY MIND REFERS TO THE MANNER IN WHICH STUDENTS THINK. NEUROTYPICAL IS THE TRADITIONAL WAY IN WHICH BRAINS FUNCTION, WHILE NEURODIVERSITY REFERS TO UNIQUE PATHWAYS. SOME EXAMPLE OF NEURODIVERGENT BRAINS ARE THOSE WHICH EXHIBIT TRAITS OF ADHD, AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER, DYSLEXIA, AND OTHER LEARNING DIFFERENCES. MUSICOLOGY INSTRUCTORS HAVE EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING IN TEACHING THE NEURODIVERGENT MIND. ADDITIONALLY, WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT RELATING A LOVE OF MUSIC TO MINDS WHICH THINK IN A “NON-TRADITIONAL” MANNER.
